Eddie is a drum instructor with 12 years of playing experience. He began taking drum lessons at age 10 and studied jazz in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Honours Jazz Combo in his teens, which laid the foundation for his understanding of advanced drumming by prioritizing listening and the use of space, and understanding the intersection of technicality and feel. During this time, he became actively involved in Vancouver’s live music scene and cultivated a strong passion for live performance, as well as a deep sense of community through music.
Currently, he is a core member in the UBC Upper Year Jazz Ensemble and plays in a professional technical jazz fusion band named Chopping Spree!, in which he has recorded two albums and toured in Canada. He is passionate about an array of musical styles, ranging from jazz, pop, rock, Latin, funk, metal, and world music. He is eager to inspire younger drummers to develop a strong foundation of rhythm and creativity behind the drums, by creating thoughtful lesson plans based around strong practice habits, rudimental development, independence, and clear, achievable goals that adapt to each student’s needs. He is also a trilingual instructor, fluent in Spanish, French, and English.
