FAQ

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some commonly asked questions at New West Music.

Recitals & Extras

Are recitals mandatory?

No — recitals are optional, but we highly encourage participation to build confidence and celebrate progress.

Can parents attend lessons?

Yes — parents are welcome to observe lessons and are encouraged to support at-home practice.

Scheduling & Policies FAQ

How long are the lessons?

We offer 30, 45, and 60-minute lessons.

Do lessons run in the summer? What if I want a break?

Yes, lessons continue year-round, including the summer months.
If you’d like to take a summer break, please provide 30 days’ notice to avoid being billed in that period.

Are lessons held on stat/public holidays?

No — the studio is closed on all statutory and public holidays. Lessons that fall on these days will not be charged for.

Check our calendar for observed stat/public holidays and closures.

What if the teacher cancels a lesson?

If your teacher needs to cancel, the lesson will always be covered by a substitute teacher at the usual time, or rescheduled.

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Yes — please notify us at least 48 hours in advance to receive a make-up lesson token (maximum of 6 per school year).

What happens if I miss a lesson without notice?

Missed lessons without prior notice (48 hours) are not eligible for make-up or credit.
We compensate teachers for no-shows and late cancellations, so these lessons cannot be credited or refunded.

How much notice do I need to stop lessons?

A 30-day written notice is required to de-register or pause lessons.
Any lessons that fall within that 30-day period will still be billed as usual.

Is there a contract or minimum number of months for registration?

We keep things flexible! Students can register on a month-to-month basis, or choose one of our 6- or 12-month plans for extra savings.

Month-to-month: No long-term commitment — you can continue lessons as long as you’d like.

6- or 12-month plans: These offer reduced rates. If you need to cancel early, cancellation fees apply for the months not completed.

This way, you can pick the option that best fits your schedule, goals, and budget.

Payment FAQs

How do payments work?

Upon registration, we securely collect your card information. Payments are (automatically) charged on a monthly basis. If you begin lessons mid-month, fees are pro-rated.
Depending on the day of week assigned, certain months will be billed for five lessons.

Can I get a refund for missed lessons?

We’re unable to offer refunds or credits for missed lessons. With advance notice, make-up options are available. Your lesson time is reserved just for you each week, ensuring your teacher and spot are always ready.
