Patrick Kao is a jazz guitarist known for his versatility as a performer and teacher. He is equally comfortable playing in small groups as he is in big bands. He graduated from Capilano University with a Dean’s award, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with two of NYC’s most respected jazz musicians, Peter Bernstein and Renee Rosnes, as part of a big band.
As a teacher, Kao has a unique philosophy on music education. He believes that there is no single “right” way to make music. For him, the most important thing is that music should be enjoyable. He encourages his students to find music that speaks to them, because he believes that this is the best way to learn. He also emphasizes the importance of practice and perseverance in mastering an instrument. With his guidance, students can expect to not only develop their technical skills, but also their appreciation for the art of music.
